HISTORY SPEAKS SERIES
History Speaks is Bushy Run’s educational lecture series. Guests join us in the museum on four evenings each year to teach us about wide-ranging topics relating the 18th Century history of our site. Tickets are $15 for General Admission and $10 for members of the Bushy Run Battlefield Heritage Society.
Diseases of the Frontier
Saturday, February 22 at 1pm.
Dr. Robert DeJesus will delve into the diseases that shaped life on the 18th-century frontier, offering an in-depth exploration of illnesses such as smallpox, dysentery, and yellow fever, which devastated entire communities.
Through this insightful presentation, Dr. DeJesus will trace the origins of these formidable diseases, vividly portray their symptoms, and discuss the limited and often ineffective treatments of the era. Discover how these diseases created immense public health challenges and produced significant health crises for the population affected.
Dr. Robert DeJesus graduated from the University of Pittsburgh Medical School, formally trained at Mercy Hospital Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and had practiced in Greensburg for thirty seven years. He currently volunteers as part of Bushy Run’s events committee and as an event photographer.
