Saturday, January 17 at 1PM – How the French & Indian War Birthed the American Legend of George Washington
Join Mike Giorgianni for a revealing look at the formative years of George
Washington. Before he led the Continental Army, George Washington was forged in the fires of
the French and Indian War (1753–1758). Mr. Giorgianni will explore Washington’s perilous
1753 expedition into western Pennsylvania, the controversial skirmish at Jumonville, and the
defeat at Fort Necessity. The discussion will also analyze his crucial role in Braddock’s 1755
expedition and the 1758 Forbes campaign including the harrowing friendly fire incident near
Fort Ligonier.
Michael Giorgianni is a lifelong western Pennsylvania resident with a deep passion for American
history, particularly the Civil War and the role of Pittsburgh in our nation’s development. He has
taught middle school social studies in the Hempfield Area School District for over 25 years,
inspiring generations of students with his enthusiasm for the past. Michael is especially drawn to
human interest stories found throughout history and is excited to share his research and meet
fellow history enthusiasts. He has also seen his research extend beyond presentations with
several articles published on the website Emerging Civil War
