This book is part narrative history and part travel guide to the Mid-Appalachian Frontier. Its format allows readers to visit the frontier sites on their own - the forts, battlegrounds, houses, churches, graveyards, tribal village sites, museums, and historic monuments as well as the many natural features that basically look the same as they did 250 years ago - and learn the story of what happened here.
Interspersed throughout are short biographies of people who shared or exemplified the frontier. The sites are grouped into ten chapters by theater or war or campaigns during the French and Indian war with driving directions to all sites. Robert B. Swift
