Military correspondence affords a vantage point for the study of any war. In 1759 Jeffrey Amherst was appointed commander-in-chief of His Majesty's Forces in North America. At that time England was at war with France, and both countries were using Native Americans as soldiers. Most of the battles were being fought north of Virginia and the Carolinas, but in 1760 South Carolina requested Amherst's assistance in the war with the Cherokees. The documents from Amherst's records relating to this war and to other activities in the Southern Sector of America during this time period are located in the British Public Records Office and have been microfilmed. (This film is also available through the LDS Family History Library.) In order to make these records easier to use, they have been transcribed, rearranged in chronological order and indexed in this convenient volume. Edith Mays ISBN 0-7884-1131-4 Soft cover
